The Odes family emigrated to Canada from Kimberly, South Africa. Sedo Snax was opened in 1991 and was run by Solly and Sheila Odes. Biltong and Boerewors were made in-store as well as an assortment of baked goods. At that time it was not possible to import South African products due to sanctions placed on the country because of it’s Apartheid policies.
After 1994 when the sanctions were lifted more South African products were able to be sourced.
In 2002, Neil Odes took over the operation of the store, his wife Karen joined him in 2016.
Over the years the range of imported and locally made South African products and delicacies has increased dramatically.
Neil and Karen invite you to pop in to the store, currently located at 385 John Street, Thornhill, Ontario, when you have a craving for a “stukkie” biltong or any of their delicious South African products.
